Origin
- First seen in the UK in the 1800s, it was thought to have
been brought over from northesat Africa. Its name is derived from
Abyssinia - the former name for Ethiopia.
Temperament - Very
social, intelligant, active and sweet-natured.
Description - Medium-sized,
slender, round and wedge-shaped head with tufted ears. This cats distinctive
feature is its double-ticked coat.

- A member of the Asian group, this cat has an unusual coat
and was orginally called the 'Burmoire'.
Temperament - Friendly,

Description - This
cat has a smoke type coat, with faint tabby markings. The undercoat
is pale, silvery r near-white with a darker top-coat. Very close to
the Burmese in body type, being medium-sized, well-muscled with a
round head.

- The Bombay is the only self-coloured horthair in the Asian
group. In the Us, the Bombay is a result of matings between Black
Burmese and a Black American Shorthair.
Temperament - Friendly,

Origin
- Thought to be descended from cats that came to England
with the invading Romans. Colour varients such as the chocolate, lilac,
colour-point are results of a colour-point breeding programme began
n the 1970's involving Colourpoint Longhairs, and the tipper variety
resulted from introducing the Chincilla.
Temperament - Undemanding
and sweet-natured.
Description - A
solidly built cat with a short, dense coat, large, round head and
a broad chest. The ears are small and wide-set, the eyes are large
and round. The colour of the eyes is usually deep-copper but can vary
from odd-eyed (British White) and yellow through to deep-copper depending
upon the olour of the coat.

blue-cream, colour-point, smoke, tabby (classic or mackerel), spotted,
tipped (black, blue, chocolate, lilac, red, cream, golden and tortie),

Origin
- The first Burmese, Wong Mau, was brought from the Far East
to the US in 1930. The breed was mported to the UK in 1948.
Temperament - Outgoing
and demanding of attention, though quieter than the Siamese. The coat
is short and has a sheen.
Description - Medium-sized,
muscular, with a rounded head and wide-set ears. The nose has a distinct
break. The coat has a glossy sheen and some colours can have darker
shading on the head, back and tail.
Colours
- Blue, chocolate, lilac, red, cream, brown ortie, blue tortie,
chocolate tortie, lilac tortie, tortiseshell. Kittens are born pale
and darken with maturity.

Origin
- This Asian group breed is the result of an accidental mating
between a Chincilla male and a Lilac Burmese female in 1981. The owner
of the Burmese named the resulting kittens 'Burmillas'.
Temperament - Quieter
than burmese, but outgoing, friendly, intelligent and lively.

close to the Burmese in body ype, being medium-sized, well-muscled
with a round head. The coat is short and shaded.

Origin
- This coat type first appeared in the litter of a Cornish
farm cat in the 1950s and is a natural mutation that results in a
curly coat. The entire breed is descended from a single kitten with
this mutation.
Temperament - Lively,
intelligent and cheeky.
Description - A
slim and muscular cat with a long, wedge-shaped head and large ears.
The coat is short, soft and fine with dense durls giving the coat
rippled appearance.

Origin
- Native to Thailand, the Korat is known as 'Si-Sawat',
the sacred cat and believed to bring good fortune. This breed appeared
in the US in the 1950s and the UK in 1972.
Temperament - Quiet,
affectionate and intelligent.

muscular, with a heart-haped face and round eyes.

Manx.

Origin
- The Manx originated from the Isle of Man and features
in the legends of that region.
Temperament - Outgoing,
affectionate and easy to train.
Description - There
are three varieties of Manx, the Rumpy, which has no tail, the Stumpy,
with a short ail, and a the Tailed. The Tailed variety cannot be
shown, but is useful for breeding, because tailess Manx cannot be
bred together, and Tailed Manx produce kittens of all three types
in their litters. The hind legs of this breed are longer than the
front legs, giving the cat a rabbit-like gait. The head is round,
the body compact, the cheeks are prominant and the nose is wide
and straight.

Origin
- The Oriental is the result of various outcrossings from
the Siamese, in a quest to produce self-coloured (solid) cats of
the Siamese type.
Temperament - Intelligent,
outgoing and affectionate. Like the Siamese, these cats can be very
vocal.
Description - Siamese
body type. Eye colour depends upon the coat colour. The coat is
short and shiny.

was originally called the Archangel Cat. Some outcrossing to Siamese
occured during the early establishment of this breed in the UK.

'The Royal Cat of Siam'. Forst seen in the Western world at the
CRystal Palace Show of 1874.Temperament - Outgoing,
